Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
- Emily Brontë
We met in early 2020, just before the world stood still. I had planned to spend the break with my grandparents, but lockdown extended that visit - giving us the unexpected gift of time. We started texting every day, getting to know each other and building a connection that felt natural and right from the very beginning.
When I returned to Saarland, we planned our official first date - a drive-in movie. But our unofficial first date came a little earlier, thanks to a closed McDonald's. After a grocery run, I was craving fast food and mentioned in frustration that my usual spot was closed. Jan-Robin replied instantly: “Send me your address, I'll be there in 20 minutes.” That evening, we sat on a rock by the Saarufer, eating our dinner and talking until the sky turned dark. It felt like we'd known each other forever. Two years later, Jan-Robin brought us back to that very same spot to propose.
Since the very beginning, we've had this quiet certainty about each other - a sense that we were always meant to be on the same team. We supported each other through university and studies, helped one another chase goals, and found joy in everyday things. Whether it was folding laundry together or road-tripping to new places, we've always chosen to grow our life together with intention and joy.
On May 22nd, 2022, Jan-Robin proposed. The day was filled with thought and love - breakfast at our favorite café, wine tasting and lunch with his parents, a long-awaited visit to the Wildpark, and dinner at a cozy Italian restaurant. After dinner, we walked to the Saar und Jan-Robin led us back to the rock where we had our first date. We sat down, just like we did that night, and he began to tell me what these past two years had meant to him. Then, he asked me to marry him.
Our happiest new chapter was welcoming our puppy Sadie June into our little family. She's sweet, chaotic, and full of personality - and a reminder of the beautiful life we're building. She's more than just a pet; she's a piece of our story, padding through our home like she's always belonged there.
Over the past five years, we've built a life full of meaning, laughter, and deep love. Our home is warm with memories, our puppy, Sadie June, brings us joy every day, and our hearts feel full - knowing we get to keep choosing each other, always.
